  • Historical drilling shows thick intersections of disseminated sulfide mineralization over wide intervals and extensive strike length. Drilling is planned in 2023 and 2024 to establish an initial resource of nickel, copper, cobalt, and platinum group elements.
  • The Nikolai project also features indications of exceptionally high-grade, massive sulfide nickel, copper, and platinum group element occurrences that will be brought to drill readiness in 2023.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 01, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Millrock Resources Inc. (TSX-V: MRO, OTCQB: MLRKF) (“Millrock” or the “Company”) announces that, subject to receipt of TSX-V approval, it plans to change its name to Alaska Energy Metals Corporation and consolidate its share capital on a 10 for 1 basis. The Company will have approximately 15.5 million common shares issued and outstanding on a post-consolidated basis. In this news release, the post-consolidated Company is referred to as “Alaska Energy Metals” or the “Company”.

The Company also plans to undertake an equity financing to raise capital for drilling and metallurgical testing of nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), cobalt (Co), chrome (Cr), iron (Fe), platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), gold (Au), and silver (Ag) mineralization on its Nikolai project in Alaska. Details will be announced when finalized.

President & CEO Gregory Beischer stated:Despite strong execution of the Project Generator model over the past few years, Millrock’s share price has declined. Bold changes are necessary and the Nikolai project presents a timely opportunity. Historical drilling at Nikolai indicates potential for a very large, low grade, polymetallic deposit dominated by nickel sulfide mineralization. The demand for nickel and cobalt for electric vehicle battery manufacture has been growing rapidly and is projected to increase significantly. It will be necessary for the mining industry to mine bulk tonnage nickel – cobalt deposits to meet the demand. Alaska Energy Metals is positioning itself to supply domestic markets with a source of critical and strategic metals. Located in the USA, we intend to help North America transition to electrical power for vehicles and other rechargeable battery powered products.”

Nikolai Project

The Nikolai project consists of two claims blocks, the Eureka block and the Canwell block, totaling 9,477 hectares. The Eureka claim block, which is 100% owned by the Company, covers the Eureka Zone, where historical drilling indicates the presence of a thick zone of disseminated mineralization over a 15-kilometer (km) strike length.

Alaska Energy Metals has an option to purchase a 100% interest in the Canwell claim block where sulfide occurrences with high grade Ni, Cu, Au, Pt, Pd and the rarer platinum group elements are documented.

Nikolai Project Location, Alaska
Nikolai Project Location, Alaska

Figure 1. Nikolai Project Location, Alaska

The Nikolai project is well-situated. The paved Richardson Highway leads to the project area, which is a 2.5-hour drive south of the city of Fairbanks. An old mining trail leads from the Richardson Highway close to the Eureka claim block, which sits on rolling hills on the leading southern edge of the Alaska Range mountains. A series of gravel roads and trails traverse the Canwell claim block, which exhibits more rugged terrain at higher elevations in the Alaska Range mountains.

At the Eureka Zone, a 3.4 km strike length (red ellipse in Figure 2) shows more substantial metal concentrations in historical drill holes. Drilled intervals range between 95 meters (m) and 320 meters, and nickel equivalent (NiEq) grades range between 0.29% and 0.47%. Typical nickel grade is ~0.22%.

Historical drilling is sparse, but metal concentration appears consistent over long distances. Calculating an initial inferred resource from some more closely spaced historical holes may be possible. The Company does not presently have access to the assay certificates from holes drilled by a former explorer (Pure Nickel Inc.). It is possible that the Company may be able to obtain this data.

Alaska Energy Metals envisions a 4,200-m drill program in summer 2023, which may result in the calculation of an initial inferred resource in compliance with National Instrument 43-101 Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects (“NI 43-101”). The Alaska Department of Natural Resources has approved drilling permits and temporary water use authorizations. Initial deportment studies indicate nickel is present primarily in the form of the sulfide mineral pentlandite but also as Ni-Fe alloy, both of which may be readily recovered by standard milling methods.

An important part of the anticipated 2023 program will include additional Ni-Cu-PGE-Au deportment studies, crystallography studies of Ni-Fe Alloys, and bench-scale, closed-circuit flotation studies.

Note: The potential quantity and grade of mineralized rock targeted by Alaska Energy Metals, as mentioned in Figure 2, is conceptual in nature. There has been insufficient exploration drilling to estimate an Inferred Mineral Resource (as defined in CIM Definition Standards for Mineral Resources & Mineral Reserves), and it is uncertain if further exploration will result in the calculation of in an Inferred Resource estimate.

There are several sulfide occurrences exposed at surface on the Canwell block of claims. Exceptional grades of nickel, copper, gold, platinum, palladium, and the rarer platinum-related metals osmium, iridium, ruthenium and rhodium have historically been reported from outcrop grab, float and chip samples. These samples are selective in nature and not necessarily representative of mineralization. Little drilling has been done and all holes are very shallow tests of surface anomalies.

In 2023, Alaska Energy Metals intends to carry out an extensive rock and soil sampling program and a modern, detailed airborne electromagnetic survey on the Canwell Block in preparation for a 2024 drilling program.

As the Exploration Superintendent at Alaska’s Pogo mine, he made significant gold deposit discoveries. Mr. Graf has been involved with Millrock for several years and will now play a pivotal role in target generation and 3-D geological modeling.

Non-Core Assets

The Company owns a portfolio of exploration stage royalty assets in Alaska and a portfolio of shares in other junior exploration companies. Additionally, the Company owns a 49% interest in the 64North gold project surrounding the Pogo gold mine in Alaska, and also other mineral property interests. The Company will consider selling these assets for fair prices to bolster the treasury and contribute to exploration and development at the Nikolai project.

Qualified Person
The scientific and technical information disclosed within this document has been prepared, reviewed, and approved by Gregory A. Beischer, President, CEO, and a director of Millrock. Mr. Beischer is a qualified person, as defined in NI 43-101. Mr. Beischer was an exploration manager for INCO in the 1990s and directly supervised drilling and sampling operations on the project. The drill core samples and rock samples collected at the time were analyzed by ALS Chemex labs and all standard quality control and quality assurance methods were used. The qualified person has recently reviewed all assay certificates from the historical drilling and sampling done by INCO. The Company has done check sampling of the INCO drill cores, which are stored at the Geologic Materials Center in Anchorage, Alaska. New assay data confirmed historical values. Some historical data presented in this press release include drill intercepts that were reported by Pure Nickel Inc. in press releases. The Company does not have access to this data and cannot therefore independently verify the information. However, Pure Nickel Inc. was known by the qualified person to be a high-caliber company that employed strong, industry-standard methods, and the qualified person has no reason to doubt the validity of the publicly reported Pure Nickel Inc. results.

Highlights:

  • Millrock received payment of US$100,000 and 10 million Resolution Minerals shares. Having spent more than US$9 million and met all other necessary conditions, Resolution has earned a 51% interest in the project. A joint venture is to be formed.
  • Excellent drill targets have been identified at East Pogo.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Feb. 24, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Millrock Resources Inc. (TSX-V: MRO, OTCQB: MLRKF) (“Millrock” or the “Company”) reports on advancements at the 64North gold exploration project. The project is the subject of an earn-in agreement whereby Resolution Minerals Limited (ASX: RML) (“Resolution”) has been earning a joint venture interest from Millrock.

Earned Interest:
Resolution has completed the requirements to earn a 51% interest in the project, and this interest has been recorded. Resolution has exceeded the Year 3 exploration expenditure requirement of US$2.5 million and has spent a total exceeding US$9.0 million on exploration. Resolution has recently paid Millrock US$100,000, and issued a further share payment of 10 million RML shares to Millrock. Millrock now owns 33 million Resolution shares. Resolution has indicated it does not intend to exercise its option to continue sole-funding exploration on the project to further increase its ownership interest. A 51% Resolution – 49% Millrock joint venture is to be formed. The terms of the December 2019 agreement can be viewed at this link: Definitive Exploration Agreement.

New East Pogo Drill Targets Identified:
As a result of the 2022 regional work, new compelling drill targets have been identified at the Miranda and Boundary prospects in the East Pogo block of the project area. Four ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) electromagnetic geophysical survey lines and a surface soil geochemical grid were completed during the 2022 season in order to refine the model for the mineralized system in the area. The updated model suggests the source of mineralizing fluid is related to discrete magnetic intrusions at depth. Multiple intrusions occur within the dilatational zone associated with the previously identified shear package. The new model indicates previous drilling in the area did not achieve depths needed to test the prospective shear. Deeper drilling will be required to test the full thickness of the shear rock package. However, a shallower, undrilled target has also been outlined. Resolution has reported further details in their February 23, 2023 press release.

Platinum price on pace for 20% quarterly gain, its biggest since 2008

Stock image.

Due to ongoing supply concerns, platinum prices have surged more than 20% over the past three months, and the precious metal is now set to experience its best quarter since the start of 2009.

On Friday, platinum prices rose another 1.0% to $1,064.50 per ounce, bringing its quarterly gain to just under 23%.

SIGN UP FOR THE PRECIOUS METALS DIGEST

Should the price of platinum maintain its 20% uptick, then this will will be the biggest quarterly increase since the first quarter of 2008, when it gained a staggering 34%.

According to the World Platinum Investment Council, top consumer China has imported excessive amounts of platinum metal since 2019, which has left a limited above-ground supply for the rest of the world.

“This, in combination with higher prices likely being needed to release Chinese inventories to the domestic market, could have a significant bearing on platinum market price discovery,” the Council wrote in its Platinum Perspectives report in December.

The Council is anticipating a platinum deficit in 2023, with demand growing by 19% while supply increasing by just 2%.

“Despite international economic turbulence, with many countries already in, or expected to tip into, recession, industrial demand for platinum will be up 10% compared to 2022, which exceeds the 10-year average,” the WPIC said in a press release.

Demand for platinum in the automotive industry will also continue to grow next year, while jewelry-based demand for platinum is forecasted to remain constant throughout 2023, the WPIC added.

According to Reuters data, platinum is by far the best-performing precious metal in 2022, recording a year-to-date gain of 9%. Over the same period, gold has lost around 1%, silver up around 3% and palladium down 4%.

Millrock Receives Positive Initial Mineralogy Results From the Nikolai (Ni-Cu-Co-PGE) Project, Alaska

Millrock Resources Inc.
Millrock Resources Inc.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 29, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Millrock Resources Inc. (TSX-V: MRO) (“Millrock”) is pleased to report positive initial results from a mineralogical assessment of historical drill core from the Upper Eureka Zone (“UEZ”) and Core Eureka Zone (“CEZ”) at its 100% owned Nikolai Project, which hosts nickel (Ni) – copper (Cu) –cobalt (Co) – platinum group elements (PGE) prospects. The Nikolai Project is located within Alaska’s Delta Mining District, approximately 130 kilometers by road south of Delta Junction and approximately 280 kilometers southeast of Fairbanks. The Eureka zone consists of disseminated Ni-Cu-Co-PGE mineralization initially discovered by a subsidiary of INCO, and further expanded by Pure Nickel Inc., as reported in their press releases ranging between 2007-2014.

Highlights from the mineralogical assessment include:

  • 94% of the nickel within the CEZ is contained within nickel sulfide (pentlandite) and nickel alloy minerals.
  • 72% of the copper within the CEZ is contained within copper sulfides (chalcopyrite, bornite, chalcocite).
  • 80% of the nickel within the UEZ is contained within nickel sulfide (pentlandite) and nickel alloy minerals.
  • 75% of the copper within the UEZ is contained within copper sulfides (chalcopyrite, bornite, chalcocite).

Millrock President and CEO Gregory Beischer commented: “These are encouraging results! For large tonnage – low-grade deposits, it is crucial that potential recovery rates of the valuable metals are well understood. This first-pass work shows that much of the nickel and copper is in mineral form that allows strong recoveries with common processing methods.”

Methodology – Metal Content
Two composite samples from hole FL-003 were created for the UEZ and CEZ. Each composite was comprised of six quarter-core sample intervals spread across the mineralized zones. The anticipated metals content for each of the composited samples was calculated using historical assays from the work done by INCO in 1997 (Table 1). Historical logging and sampling of the INCO drill core was done under the direct supervision of Gregory Beischer, the qualified person responsible for the contents of this disclosure. Historical assays were performed at Chemex, Inc. in Reno, Nevada. Chemical analysis of the composites for this study were completed prior to the mineralogical study to validate the historical assay results completed by INCO (Table 1). Concentrations determined by INCO and by Millrock were found to be similar.

Methodology Mineralogical Study
The mineral processing work was completed by the Bureau Veritas Metallurgical Laboratory in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. The individual composites were ground to ~125µm following standard grind calibration procedures. The ground composites were sized using wet screens and a cyclone sizer, and then sized into four fractions for chemical analysis and QEMSCAN analysis. QEMSCAN Particle Mineral Analysis was conducted on each size fraction of the sized composites to determine nickel and copper deportment and fragmentation characteristics.

Initial Mineralogical Study Results
Nickel sulfide and nickel alloys accounted for ~94% of the total nickel within the CEZ composite sample (only 5.1% of total nickel in silicates). Pentlandite was the principal nickel bearing sulfide and carried ~92% of the total nickel in the CEZ composite. Pentlandite content was measured at 0.68% by weight. The remaining potentially recoverable nickel was in the nickel alloys and nickel metal, which accounted for ~2% of the total nickel. Sulfur is higher in the CEZ (1.32%) and there is an increased amount of pyrrhotite (1.78% by weight). Interlocking between pentlandite and pyrrhotite was rarely observed, which will be favorable to the pentlandite separation from pyrrhotite.

Nickel sulfide and nickel alloys accounted for ~80% of the total nickel within the UEZ composite sample (18.9% of total nickel in silicates). Pentlandite was the principal nickel bearing sulfide and carried ~64% of the total nickel in the CEZ composite. Pentlandite content was measured at 0.44% by weight. The remaining potentially recoverable nickel was in the form of nickel alloy and nickel metal, which accounted for ~16% of the total nickel. Sulfur is lower in the UEZ (0.49%), likely due to the decrease in pyrrhotite. These results are summarized in Table 2 below.

Copper sulfides accounted for ~71% to 75% of the total copper within the CEZ and UEZ composites. Chalcopyrite is the dominant copper sulfide and accounts for ~67% to 71% of the copper in the composite samples. Bornite, chalcocite, cuprite, malachite, and azurite were also present, in the composite samples. The remainder of the copper (~24% to 28%) was present in valleriite (Cu-Fe-Mg sulphate). The copper sulfide contents were 0.31% by weight in the CEZ and 0.14% by weight in the UEZ. These results are summarized in Table 3 below.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 26, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Millrock Resources Inc. (TSX-V: MRO) (“Millrock”) is pleased to report additional assay results from the sampling of historical core from the Eureka Zone at its 100% owned Nikolai Project, which hosts nickel (Ni) – copper (Cu) – cobalt (Co) – platinum group elements (PGE) prospects.

The Nikolai Project is located within Alaska’s Delta Mining District, approximately 130 kilometers by road south of Delta Junction and approximately 280 kilometers southeast of Fairbanks. The Eureka zone consists of disseminated Ni-Cu-Co-PGE mineralization initially discovered by a subsidiary of INCO, and further expanded by Pure Nickel Inc., as reported in their press releases ranging between 2007-2014 (see Figure 1).

The new assay results confirm the existence of low-grade Ni-Cu-Co-PGE mineralization immediately below and adjacent to the Core Eureka Zone (“CEZ”). The new zone is named the Lower Eureka Zone (“LEZ”). Along with the Upper Eureka Zone (“UEZ”), hole FL-003, drilled by INCO in 1997, intersected 346 meters of nickel mineralization, representing an approximate true width of 275 meters (Figure 2).

Millrock President and CEO Gregory Beischer commented: “From historical drilling, it is clear that a large volume of mineralized rock is present in the Eureka Zone. We believe the demand for nickel, cobalt, and other Critical and Strategic Metals will be exceptionally strong in the coming decades, making low-grade mineralization such as at Eureka of interest.”

About Eureka Zone:
Based on historical drill hole results, Millrock identified a probable zone of mineralization measuring approximately 1,200 meters by 400 meters by 300 meters that contains low but potentially economic concentrations of nickel, copper, cobalt, platinum, palladium, and gold. Upon further review of the historical drill hole results, it was noted that only incomplete, non-continuous sampling was done in rocks intersected below the CEZ in hole FL-003. Drill core from this hole is preserved at the Geologic Materials Center in Anchorage, Alaska. Millrock collected and assayed samples from hole FL-003 in the suspected LEZ.

Highlights of the core sampling program include:

  • FL-003: 100 samples were assayed between hole depths of 273.4 meters and 412.1 meters
  • FL-003: mineralized interval of 135.6 meters grading 0.20% Ni, 0.05% Cu, 0.016% Co, 0.062 ppm Pd, 0.026 ppm Pt, and 0.014 ppm Au (including eight historical intervals).

Based on the newly received assays and historical assays from INCO holes FL-003 and FL-006, Millrock now interprets there to be three distinct domains (UEZ, CEZ, and LEZ) within the Eureka Zone, with an estimated true thickness at the drilled location of 275 meters (Figure 2).

These three domains consist of strongly serpentinized rocks:

1: Upper Eureka Zone (UEZ) – sulfur-poor peridotite, with disseminated sulfides.

Note: NiEq% and CuEq% in this press release are calculated using the following metal prices:
Nickel = $7.00/lb., Copper = $3.50/lb., Cobalt = $25.00/lb., Palladium = $1800/oz., Platinum = $900/oz. and Gold = $1600/oz.

In order to determine the deportment of nickel, copper, cobalt, and the precious metals, Millrock has submitted samples for laboratory analysis to identify which minerals are host to the valuable metals. From this information, an idea of metal recoverability can be gleaned. This will be very important information to have for a project of this type and scale.

Quality Control – Quality Assurance
Millrock adheres to stringent Quality Assurance – Quality Control (“QA/QC”) standards. Core samples are kept in a secure location at all times. In this case, the samples were assayed at the Bureau Veritas laboratory in Vancouver, Canada. Preparation and analysis methods are described in further detail here. The sample preparation method code being utilized for the current sampling program was PRP70-250. Analysis methods used include MA370 – 4-acid digestion ICP-ES Finish and FA330 – Fire assay fusion Au, Pt, Pd by ICP-ES. For every 10 core samples, a blank, duplicate, or standard sample (Certified Reference Materials) of known copper, nickel, platinum, palladium, and gold concentration was analyzed. The Qualified Person is of the opinion that the results reported in this press release are reliable.

Historical assay results for core samples originally obtained by INCO in 1997 were used, in part, for the composite grade calculation for the LEZ in hole FL-003. Millrock has not independently verified the results. However, the drilling work completed in 1997 was done under the direct supervision of Gregory Beischer in his prior role as Exploration Manager for INCO. Mr. Beischer is the Qualified Person responsible for the contents of this disclosure. The historical samples were assayed at Chemex Lab, Inc. Appropriate quality control measures were in place.

Qualified Person

Fairbanks District – Treasure Creek Gold Project
Felix Gold (ASX: FXG, “Felix Gold” or “Felix”) has recently reported that it has completed the planned exploration program at the Treasure Creek gold project in the Fairbanks Mining District. The company has completed 12,424 meters of reverse circulation drilling in 131 holes to test the NW Array and Eastgate prospect areas. Reconnaissance lines were also drilled to test geophysical and geochemical targets in other areas of the property. An initial highlight result of 89.0 meters grading 1.2 grams per tonne gold was previously reported at the Northwest Array prospect and a diamond core rig is now being used to do further testing. Assay results for only nine of the 131 holes have been reported. Thousands of assay results are to follow throughout the fall of 2022. Felix Gold has also completed a VTEM airborne geophysical survey at Treasure Creek to complement a previously flow magnetic survey. Further details can be found in Felix Gold’s September 13, 2022 press release.

By virtue of its sale of Fairbanks District claims and a strategic alliance with Felix Gold, Millrock owns 9,957,157 shares of Felix Gold and holds royalties ranging from 1.0% to 2.0% NSR on all claims currently held by Felix Gold in the Fairbanks District.

Millrock President & CEO Gregory Beischer commented: “Felix Gold executed an excellent drilling program this year and we look forward to seeing the results. We think the potential of the Fairbanks District has not been fully recognized, but that it soon will be.”

Goodpaster District, 64North Gold Project
Resolution Minerals Limited (ASX: RML) (“Resolution”) has recently reported that it has completed a diamond drilling program to test the Tourmaline Ridge prospect, located to the immediate west of the Pogo Mine, where owner Northern Star Resources Ltd. operates a successful gold mining operation southeast of the City of Fairbanks.

Tourmaline Ridge was identified as a priority target for drilling in 2022. Gold and pathfinder elements were detected in soil samples over a 1,850 by 750-meter area. Resolution executed an efficient drill test. Five diamond core holes totaling 2,324 meters were drilled to intersect shallow northwest dipping structures interpreted from geophysics as possible extensions of the Pogo Mine structures. Hole 22TR001 intersected altered rocks with indications of multiple hydrothermal fluid flow events. Mineralization included veinlets of quartz with arsenopyrite, pyrite, and pyrrhotite. Hole 22TR003 intersected quartz veins containing bismuthinite and pyrite. Resolution reported the first batch of assay results from select zones in holes 22TR001 and 22TR003 with low-level, elevated gold values commonly in the 0.04 to 0.2 grams per tonne gold range. Resolution anticipates receipt of the remaining assay results (86% of the total samples submitted) in November 2022. Further details can be gleaned from Resolution’s September 5, 2022 press release.

Resolution is currently sole funding exploration to earn up to an 80% interest in a portion of the 64North project. By virtue of the earn-in agreement, Millrock owns 23,100,000 shares of Resolution. To date, Resolution has earned a 42% interest in the project.

“Copper is the New Oil”

According to Goldman Sachs

By 2025, the metals could be priced at $15,000 a tonne (U$6.80 per pound), a rise of 66%. (current copper price is $9,300 per tonne (U$4.24 per pound)) Goldman said in a report titled “Copper is the new Oil”

The report also drills down into three drivers of green copper demand: electric vehicles (EVs); solar power and wind power. The bank estimates that 5.1 million EVs likely will be sold in 2021, rising to 31.51 million EVs in the year 2030. It also forecasts that 30 million charging units will be installed in 2030.

A rising tide of electrification, as many countries seek to lower their emissions through developing new technologies, promises robust demand for years to come. Global copper production would need to rise by between 3% and 6% per annum by 2030 for countries to meet the targets of the Paris Agreement on climate change, according to a Sept. 14 Bernstein Research note.

Millrock Adds to Treasury From Royalty Sale

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Aug. 29, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Millrock Resources Inc. (TSX-V: MRO, OTCQB: MLRKF) (“Millrock” or the “Company”) reports that it has sold a portfolio of royalties on exploration projects in British Columbia, Canada and Sonora State, Mexico to Osisko Gold Royalties Ltd (“Osisko”). Gross proceeds from the sale are $1.2 million.

Millrock President & CEO, Gregory Beischer, commented: “Prevailing market challenges make an equity financing difficult and raising capital in this manner would be highly dilutive to shareholders. Sale of non-core assets is the best way to bolster Millrock’s treasury for continued project generation activities, while we wait for assay results to roll out from two major Alaska gold drilling projects in which Millrock holds an interest.”
